Voters across the country will vote next month to get the first vote since the coronavirus pandemic broke out.
Many competitions will be held on May 6th and will be referred to as “Super Thursday,” including some that have been postponed due to Covid-19 from last year.
In England, voters will elect a mix of councilors, local mayors, regional mayors and police commissioners.
Those in Cheshire West and Chester, as well as Cheshire East, will have the opportunity to choose who they would like to appoint as Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner – the competition was supposed to be held last year but has been postponed due to the pandemic.
With voter registrations approaching, we looked at how voter turnout has been in Cheshire West and Chester, and Cheshire East over the past few years.
Electoral Commission data shows that in the last PCC election in 2016, 250,400 people in Cheshire West and Chester were eligible to vote, with 51,400 returning valid ballots.
That was a turnout of 20.5 percent, which was below the English average for PCC elections of 25.1 percent.
Different numbers show that 92,300 people in Cheshire West and Chester cast valid votes in the last local elections in 2019 – 34.2 percent of those eligible.
Around 24,600 postal votes were included in the count.
Including votes rejected, the turnout in Cheshire West and Chester was 34.7 percent that year.
In Cheshire East, electoral commission data shows that 281,100 people in Cheshire East were eligible to vote in the last PCC election, of whom 56,700 returned valid ballots.
That was a turnout of 20.2 percent.
Varying figures show that 99,800 people in Cheshire East cast valid votes in the last local elections in 2019 – 33.5 percent of those eligible.
Around 33,800 letter votes were included in the count.
Including votes rejected, the turnout in Cheshire East that year was 34.1 percent.
