Thursday, March 25, 2021 (4:49 p.m.) – Result 456
Around 2,500 additional households in the town of Alsager in Cheshire are now the newest to benefit from the ongoing expansion of their FTTP (Fiber-to-the-Premises) broadband network in the UK, which has average top download speeds of around 630 Mbit / s ( reach 1 Gbit / s + in the near future).
All of this, as always, is part of their continuation Project Blitz build, which has so far expanded its network to include an additional 2.5 million UK offices. The operator’s original network was also provided Hybrid fiber coax (HFC) technology, but the Alsager build uses FTTP over High frequency over glass (RFoG) – Both methods use the DOCSIS standard to share the same consumer hardware.
At the same time, Virgin Media is rolling out the latest DOCSIS 3.1 network upgrade across the UK. By the end of 2021, download speeds of 1 Gbit / s + should be possible in a network of almost 16 million locations. Outside these areas, you can currently expect average speeds of up to approx. 630 Mbit / s from the existing EuroDOCSIS 3.0-based packages (via the Top TV package).
