Cheshire: More financial support for Cheshire residents affected by the pandemic

FAMILIES in Cheshire hard hit by the pandemic are expected to receive further government funding.

Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East Councils are expected to receive an additional £ 1.7 million from the Covid Local Support Grant to help families get back on their feet as the economy recovers and vaccine rollout continues.

The total allocation for Cheshire as of December 1st last year is £ 4.5 million.

The grant (formerly known as the Covid Winter Grant Scheme) has enabled local authorities in England to support families struggling with food and utility bills due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The grant has been running since December 1, 2020 with a total investment to date of over £ 269 million.

Between December 1, 2020 and April 16, 2021, councils made nearly 6.3 million allocations under the program.

It will now be extended one last time with a further investment of 160 million pounds through September 30, 2021. This temporary support will be extended beyond the planned end of restrictions to continue to support families.

Eddisbury MP Edward Timpson CBE said: “During the pandemic, the government has provided an unprecedented package of support to individuals, families, communities and businesses in need of financial assistance at this critical time – help that I know will come from many have welcomed my constituents here in Eddisbury and throughout Cheshire. ”
