Walk-in vaccination centers are opening amid the surge in cases from Cheshire East

A pop-up walk to vaccination centers will be available next week in South Cheshire as health chiefs continue to address rising cases of Covid.

Walk-in vaccination clinics in Grand Junction Retail Park and Weston Road will be running in Crewe on Monday and Tuesday, operated by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust.

The clinics are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday) and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Tuesday) and offer Pfizer vaccines to younger people aged 18 to 39 years. No appointment necessary.

It comes as Cheshire East Council health chiefs expressed concern over the increase in cases of Covid-19 “Delta” variants across the county.

Cheshire East was designated an Enhanced Response Area on June 14th.

Since then, the Delta variant cases in Crewe and Nantwich, and more recently in Congleton, Middlewich and Sandbach, have continued to rise.

According to CEC statistics, there were 634 new cases in the seven days ended June 27. This is an increase from 575 cases in the previous seven days.

Dr. Matt Tyrer, Director of Public Health at Cheshire East Council said, “We have all worked together for so long in the past 16 months to keep people safe and I want to thank everyone for following the guidelines.

“But despite our best efforts, we are now seeing worrying patterns of infection.

“We cannot afford to be complacent or prices will continue to rise and our schools and businesses will continue to suffer from disruption.

“We all have to be socially responsible and do the right thing for ourselves and for one another.

“This also includes young people, as the majority of new cases are in the 10 to 39 age group and whether you are a young person or an adult, it is up to us to do the right thing.”

Cllr Jill Rhodes, Chair of the Cheshire East Council for Adults and Chair of the Health Committee, said, “We are so close to our lives being back to normal, but now is not the time to lose our vigilance.

“Hands, space, face, fresh air, and both syringes, when given to you with regular testing, are more important than ever.”

The Council recently launched a new awareness campaign entitled ‘It’s in our hands’.
