Woman still in a coma after being kicked in the head by a horse at Cheshire event

A Whitchurch woman has been in a coma for several weeks after being kicked in the head by a horse, her husband has confirmed.

Last month, Whitchurch native Sharon Quigley was involved in an accident at a show jumping competition near Winsford, Cheshire.

Ms. Quigley, who runs the Q Sport Horses show horse business in Alkington with her husband David, was kicked in the head by one of her own animals.

She was admitted to a local hospital following the incident before she was transferred to Royal Stoke Hospital and underwent successful facial reconstruction surgery, but has been in a coma since then.

Her husband David said it was a “waiting game” regarding Sharon’s condition.

He said, “Sharon is still in a coma, but she is stable.

“It’s really just a waiting game.

“We persevered, there is not much more we can really do.”

Friends also gathered after the incident, and Daniella Jones, who works in the couple’s business, helped raise funds for those who look after Sharons.

“Those who know Shaz and her family understand the inspiration and dedication they bring to equestrianism,” said Daniella.

“This was an unprecedented accident that resonates, and the amazing professional medical care provided after the accident is helping Shaz recover from such serious injuries.

“Not only is Shaz a mother and wife, Shaz is my boss and friend to many people around the world.

“She was an inspiration to me and others.”

Daniella ran a three mile run every day in July and August to raise funds for the NHS Trust.

She added, “How can I appreciate such dedicated professional healthcare providers who not only gave Shaz the best possible chance to get through, but also gave hope to many others in our country and industry.

“I will support our wonderful NHS, which gave Shaz the best possible chance to get through this injury.

“It may be a bearer of hope, but I know it is a gratitude of thanks for all who prayed, offered support and love to Shaz.

“It’s a big thank you to the NHS.

“I chose this charity because I feel like the NHS is hardly ever recognized for its amazing work.

“The NHS is an amazing team and they are the reason Shaz is still alive.”
