A CHARITY calls on wool warriors in Cheshire to join them in a knitting campaign to urgently raise money for the elderly who are most in need.
The innocent Big Knit campaign has returned and Age UK Cheshire is calling on Cheshire knitters and crocheters to get out their knitting needles to help out as much as possible.
This is the 18th year the innocent healthy beverage maker has been running the Big Knit in partnership with Age UK with the idea of making some little hats for innocent smoothie bottles.
For every smoothie sold, Age UK receives 25 pence, which helps the charity make the lives of the elderly better.
With so many of us spending a lot of time at home right now, this is a great opportunity to sew superstars to craft, or to knit newbies to grab some needles and twirl them around.
The pandemic has had a major impact on the elderly over the past year, so Age UK needs these little hats more than ever to raise funds for its vital services.
Age UK Cheshire Chief Officer Dale Maskell said: “We need the people of Cheshire to join us and help knit as many miniature hats as possible so we can reach our 6000 goal.”
“It’s been a challenging time for everyone, but it’s really fun to get involved in and it’s a great activity when we all spend more time at home.
“The money raised in these little hats will make a big difference to the lives of elderly people in our area, many of whom have been hard hit by the pandemic.
“Every knitted hat will help fund our critically important services, including our important Sharing Time project, which helps people make new connections.”
Katie Simpson, Head of Brand at Innocent Drinks, said: “We are very excited to be working with Age UK again on the Big Knit.
“After a tough year, we want to make this campaign as big as possible so we can help more elderly people than ever before.
“We are incredibly grateful to all of the heroic volunteers who have helped us get there.”
There are six exciting new hat designs for this year including a rainbow, rabbit, cupcake, bobble, fox, and bird.
These knitting and crochet patterns can be downloaded. Further information can be found at: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/get-involved/fundraise/the-big-knit/
Finished hats can be sent to Age UK Cheshire at the Castle Community Center, Barbers Lane, Northwich, CW8 1DT or returned to Age UK Cheshire stores when it reopens in June.
The hats should go on sale in February 2022.
