Two Cheshire chippies made headlines this week after being announced in the top 50 fish and chip shops in the UK as part of the 2021 National Fry Awards.
Hooked on the Heath in Knutsford – as well as The Fish Bar in Crewe – was one of the chippies to receive the prestigious award. So we went with them to test their food and see what the experience was like.
The ordering process went very smoothly. You can pre-order on the website and click and pick up. You can also order at the door and wait a short time.
You can choose the time to pick up and the payment processed seemed safe and straightforward.
The food was good value at £ 8.80 for cod, fries and mashed peas – especially given the excellent quality of the food.
When picking up, the process was quick and straightforward, the staff were friendly and everyone adhered to COVID-safe measures.
I was also delighted to see that the Chippy has a gluten-free fish option every Wednesday.
The quality of the food was absolutely wonderful, the food was fresh, hot, the batter was reasonably crispy, and it certainly wasn’t too greasy.
There was also a fair amount of salt to choose from online (but never vinegar – just a case of personal preference!).
Possibly some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and I’ve had the privilege of eating fish and chips in at least three countries in my life.
Food quality 10/10
Covid safe measures 9/10
Price-performance ratio 8/10
Cleanliness and customer service 9/10
