MORE than 5,500 coronavirus tests were conducted in two Cheshire cities on May 25 after all residents were advised to get tested if the number of cases increased.
All Northwich and Winsford residents have been urged by Cheshire West and Chester Council to book a coronavirus test after an increased number of cases in both cities – and that advice still applies.
The council says the cases are likely to be the delta variant, which is more transferable.
In order to contain the spread, residents should book a PCR test even without symptoms.
Around 5,500 tests have been carried out in cities since May 30th.
These include the local test sites in Queensway in Winsford and the Old Depot in Northwich, as well as the mobile test units that are brought to the parking lot of the Winsford Academy and the Cumberland Car Park in Northwich.
On June 6th, when the original appeal was first published, a spokesman for Cheshire West and Chester Council said, “Over the past seven days we have seen a sharp increase in the number of Covid-19 cases leading to a number of outbreaks in businesses and schools.
“Similar to the north-west, the current increase in new cases belongs to variant B.1.617.2 (delta variant), which is more transferable than other previous variants.
“To reduce the spread of the virus and understand the extent of the spread, the Cheshire West and Chester Council Public Health Team is now advising all residents of Northwich and Winsford to book a PCR test regardless of whether they have symptoms or not.
“To book a test, go to gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test and choose ‘My community council or health team asked me to take a test even though I am not experiencing symptoms’ or call 119.
“It is extremely important that every Northwich and Winsford resident is urged to get tested for Covid-19 after a spike when everyone in this community is tested so that prompt public health action can be taken Prevent outbreaks and the impact on local populations and economies.
“It is also important that schools continue to test LFT twice a week to prevent it from spreading through schools and avoid disruptions to school.
“We would also like to encourage everyone who is eligible and has not yet received their first vaccination to book via the national booking portal nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/.
“Anyone who is due the second dose should take the offer as soon as possible.”
Northwich and Winsford residents who haven’t had a PCR test since May 14 should access a test unless they have tested positive in the past 90 days.
This also applies to the residents of the surrounding and surrounding villages.
