Rob Sehmi insists Cheshire must quickly get over their NCCA Twenty20 Cup finals day disappointment as they start the next block of the summer programme.
Cheshire, under the captaincy of Nick Anderson, topped Group One of the short format with seven wins out of eight to book their place in the finals at Tring Park last Sunday.
However, they were beaten in the semi-finals by Oxfordshire – who went on to lift the silverware with victory over Cambridgeshire – to see their hopes of success end in the first encounter of the day.
It’s a quick turnaround for Cheshire, though, as they now get their teeth into the Knockout Trophy campaign… and a trip to face Cambs at Exning Park on Sunday.
Sehmi takes over captaincy duties from Anderson and is keen ensure his players are not running last weekend’s events through their minds.
“We were gutted with what happened on finals day,” said Oulton Park’s Sehmi.
“It was a game we lost ourselves, rather than being beaten. But with the amount of cricket we play we have to pick ourselves up and go again.
“There’s no time to dwell on what happened against Oxfordshire. We played really well in the Twenty20 format to get that far in the competition.
“It was a good opportunity for players to showcase what they are about and that is why the squad hasn’t changed much.
“We will take confidence from the T20 campaign and look to attack the 50-over competition.”
Cheshire might well have a point to prove as they open their Group Three campaign – which will also include matches against Norfolk, Suffolk and Shropshire.
Cambs ended Cheshire’s interest in the 50-over program last summer with a quarter-final win.

“Cambridgeshire were better than us on the day last year and deserved to win,” added Sehmi.
“We took things from that and we have to make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes.
“It’s going to be a tough game. Any team in the NCCA is strong and the standard is rising.
“We just have to make sure that we go there with the right mindset and win the game.
