Cheshire West and Chester Council Chairwoman, Councilor Louise Gittins, thanked residents and asked for their patience as key councilors continue to clean up a backlog.
The councilor praised various groups, from social workers to garbage collectors, who she believed worked tirelessly through the extremely difficult circumstances of the pandemic. Many residents were aware of these difficulties, but Ms. Gittins was also keen to highlight disappointing reports of abusive behavior.
She said, “We must choose to be kind and treat everyone with dignity and respect. The council’s staff are no exception – they are real people, part of our communities, and could be our neighbors, friends, or family members. This behavior prevents them from playing their part in creating a greener, fairer, and stronger place for our lives. It is up to all of us to pay attention to how we treat each other. ”
If residents want to comment on the Council’s activities, they can take part in one of the wide-ranging public consultations on the Council’s website. Residents can also visit the website to provide feedback to help the council improve.
If any member of the public witnesses threatening behavior, they should report it to the Cheshire Police on 101. The council, in cooperation with the Cheshire Police Department, may take action if threats or abuse reach a threshold of criminal behavior. This could include the withdrawal of council services in extreme situations.
