Cheshire West leisure company Brio turns 10

This May, the leisure company Brio Leisure from Cheshire West and Chester celebrates its 10th birthday.

Brio Leisure operates leisure facilities such as Northgate Arena, Ellesmere Port Sports Village, Northwich Memorial Court, Neston Recreation Center, Winsford Lifestyle Center, Frodsham Leisure Center and Christleton Sports Center, as well as Northwich Memorial Court and Ellesmere Port Civic Hall entertainment venues . The company employs around 600 people in the entire district.

Over the past 10 years, Brio Leisure has participated in and hosted a number of events and has received prestigious awards.

In 2019, Brio Leisure was named Organization of the Year by ukactive and was also named Top 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain on the London Stock Exchange.

The company was also featured in the parliamentary review, and this year it was featured in the Leaders Council report on Business Returning and Covid Lessons.

The company’s 10th anniversary was a great opportunity to remember and celebrate the achievements of Brio and the extraordinary hard work of all of its employees.

Brio Leisure is 100% owned and worked with Cheshire West and Chester Council over the years.

Ian Ashworth, Director of Public Health for Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “We are very proud of all that Brio has achieved over the past 10 years.

“Our centers and services have been at the heart of our local communities and have played an important role during the pandemic with virtual services to keep people fit and active in what is truly a challenging time for many, many people.

“The Brio Centers were at the center of Covid’s emergency response and acted as hubs for coordinating food and staple supplies, as well as providing a basis for distributing much-needed PPE.

“Subsequently, Brio centers and staff, along with our volunteer partners and community sector partners, have been critical to the highly successful implementation of the council’s testing and vaccination plan across the county.

“This was an incredible endeavor that demonstrates Brio’s ability to be flexible and responsive as an organization and as a delivery partner.”

Over time, Brio has been involved in many events and activities in the district, including sponsoring and supporting Chester Pride and Northwich Thundersprint, as well as Race for Life and wearing the Paralympic Torch.

The celebrations at Brio Leisure have continued for the past 10 years. New locations opened in 2015, including the Ellesmere Port Sports Village and Northwich Memorial Court in 2015, and the renovation of the Neston Recreation Center in 2018.

The Brio centers offer a variety of impressive activities ranging from swimming to fitness to fitness classes.

Managing Director Elly McFahn said, “I am proud to have been a part of Brio since the day the company was founded on May 3, 2011, and indeed part of the journey to establish it from the start.

“Brio was the first UK Community Interest Leisure Company to show just the importance of what is local to residents and communities in the county.

“Over time we have increasingly moved towards a goal of greater health and wellbeing, and over the past year, Covid has shown across Covid the importance of the things we offer to addressing so many new challenges.

“Brio will continue to develop the good work they have done so far. Working with Cheshire West and Chester Council, we will adapt and provide assisted solutions for many years to come.”

Brio Leisure also has an entertainment sub-brand operating at Northwich Memorial Court and Ellesmere Port Civic Hall.

In 2018, Memorial Court hosted the Charlatans homecoming performance in Northwich as part of the North by Northwich Festival. The band played at the venue for four nights in May.

The company looks to the future, especially when the lockdown is lifted and customers are welcomed back to their centers.

In the past year nothing has stopped and the asset portfolio has continued to improve. Northgate Arena has just completed the first phase of renovations, which include impressive digital devices, improved access to the building and a new coffee shop.

This year, Brio Leisure also received a decarbonisation investment from the council, which will ensure greener heating and energy in all centers.

Mr. Ashworth added: “Looking ahead, the Council will invest £ 14 million in transforming the Brio services over the next 10 years. These exciting plans include Brio continuing to work closely with local communities to develop services tailored to the needs of local people and opportunities to deliver targeted services to improve health and wellbeing.

“Brio will continue to provide services in an innovative and flexible manner, making optimal use of existing municipal facilities and partner networks, as well as making use of green spaces and outdoor facilities.”

Starting in May, Brio Leisure is celebrating its birthday with throwback pictures, employee reminders and competitions on its social media websites. Customers can engage with the hashtag # 10YearsofBrio.
