Cheshire West: Residents urged to remain cautious as lockdown restrictions wear off

The council chairman has urged residents to remain cautious as lockdown restrictions continue to ease tomorrow.

The next step in the national Covid-19 roadmap will take place on Monday, May 17, when restaurants, pubs and hotels allow customers to be indoors and people can gather in larger groups.

In step 3 of the roadmap, groups of up to 30 people can socialize outdoors and two households or groups of up to six people can gather indoors, including in the hospitality industry.

Cllr Louise Gittins, Chair of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “This is another encouraging step forward on our path to normal. It’s great for business, our freedom, and our mental health, but I want to remind everyone that caution is required.

“COVID-19 has not gone away. It’s a terrible virus that spreads through human contact. We are making great strides with the vaccination program in Cheshire West and Chester, but no vaccine is 100 percent effective.

“To stop COVID-19 we must continue our good work of being careful and remembering the hands, face, space and fresh air. If you meet indoors, ensure adequate ventilation.”

Ian Ashworth, Director of Public Health on the Council, said: “You should test yourself twice a week whether or not you have had a vaccine. Test whenever it suits your routine best, but I would suggest before your weekend activities start and then on a Monday morning before you start work. ”

Large outdoor seating such as soccer stadiums can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators, and up to 30 people can gather for weddings and receptions.

There is no limit to attending funerals. The number depends on the capacity of the venue. Theaters and cinemas can entertain up to 1,000 people or 50 percent of their capacity (whichever is lower), and organized indoor sports, including fitness classes, can resume.

Hospitality, entertainment and indoor fitness companies have had to put strict controls in place on their operating and trading conditions to keep employees and customers safe and to control the spread of COVID-19.

Nursing home residents can have up to five named visitors, with two visitors being able to attend at the same time, provided they are tested and follow infection control measures. Residents also have greater freedom to leave their homes without having to isolate themselves upon return.

Residents and visitors are advised to keep the instructions, hands, face, room and fresh air, and follow the safety instructions issued by the companies.
