A Dan Cockerline double helped Nantiwch Town to a 3-2 win over National League side Altrincham in the second round of the Cheshire Senior Cup.
The hosts took the lead in just 34 seconds when Altrincham skipper Josh Hancock slid the ball past Wycherley.
But Nantwich’s heads didn’t drop, and it seemed to electrify the players.
They soon took control of the midfield, with David Vaughan’s experience coming to the fore.
Another early blow to Dabbers was the loss of Casper Hughes to injury, with Joel Stair taking his place.
Heath and Cockerline linked well and soon Cockerline was in the right place at the right time to knock home the equalizer after a shot was saved by Gould.
The hosts regained the lead with a sensational goal from Ben Pringle.
He sliced inside and shot into the top of Wycherley’s goal, giving the keeper no chance.
Shortly before the half-time whistle, a wonderful cross provided substitute Stair, who beat Gould with a low header to make it 2-2.
And then, in first-half injury time, an excellent pressing from the Dabbers forced an error and Cockerline found himself in front of goal to take a 3-2 lead at the break.
After the break, the hosts pressed but Cockerline could have scored a hat-trick. Twice he spun his marker in the box only to see his effort go inches wide.
Altrincham brought on former Crewe Alex star Ryan Colclough and he had an instant impact as he had a couple of shots that were first saved by Wycherley and then deflected wide for a corner.
Nantwich defended resolutely, well set up by captain Josh Langley.
And Altrincham could find no way to create clear openings.
A late header from Tom Peers deep in injury time missed and Nantwich held on to a historic win.
The Dabbers meet former league club Stockport County in the next round.
