The first Long COVID-19 Rehabilitation Program in Cheshire East starts June 14th.
Everybody Sport and Recreation is the first organization to offer the service to people with long-term COVID.
A first pilot project is aimed at people aged 18 and over who suffer from long-term symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, mobility problems and poor psychological well-being, among other things.
The free pilot program is offered at the Crewe Lifestyle Center and the Macclesfield Leisure Center.
Donna Williamson, Senior Manager at Everybody Sport and Recreation, said, “There is currently no rehabilitation program in Cheshire East for residents affected by Long COVID.
“After talking to our health partners, we recognized the critical support that is required here to provide this service.
“We will be the first organization in Cheshire East to fund this pilot project. This is a free service for the participants. We look forward to working with health professionals to refer attendees to this program.
“Our specialized health teachers all have their COVID-19 rehabilitation course through Future Fit Training Ltd. successfully completed.
“Our Health Innovation Team will offer the pilots twice a week as a group exercise course for six weeks.
“The program consists of two components, including an educational component in which participants learn how to easily cope with and manage their problems themselves, and a training program in which participants conduct a progressive training program that is tailored to their needs and abilities everything is tailored. “
Exercise will be an important part of recovery to reduce fatigue and manage anxiety and lift your mood.
After completing the rehab program, participants can take part in the Everybody’s Exercise Referral Scheme to support long-term progress.
Chris Smith, Nantwich Physiotherapy Team Manager, said: “We are seeing increasing NHS referral rates for MSK services as the lockdown eases.
“Such a specialized service, to which we can refer our patients with long Covid, is a great advantage for us.
“The needs of these patients can be adjusted through professional input so that we can continue to focus on our own service pressure.”
At this point, the participants will be referred through their family doctor or medical professional.
