With the lifting of the blocking restrictions, the roads will be used more and more.
In two weeks on May 17, if the government is satisfied with the country’s progress, further restrictions will be eased, including reopening of restaurants in pubs and eateries.
This means the roads are likely to get heavier traffic and road works, closures and major development projects on our highways and A-roads will continue.
Northgate development in Chester is also continuing, resulting in various road closures in and around the city center.
A new market will be at the heart of the £ 72 million development, which is currently scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022. This also includes a new cinema with six screens, cafes and restaurants, a public square and a parking garage.
It will build on the success of Storyhouse and complement existing stores on Northgate Street.
The old library front will be converted into a new arcade, providing an arched entrance into the development that will also be accessible from Hunter Street and Princess Street.
The project will also create a new public space for the city that will connect the new market hall, storyhouse and town hall.
The creation of a new bridge at Junction 19 of the M6 near Knutsford has also and continues to result in road closures.

Overleigh Roundabout, City Walls, Nuns Road – Chester – Roads and footpaths closed due to Chester Races – until May 7th.

A55 – near Huntington – Lane One block east (MP 136/4 to exit). Left Permanent Lane 1 closed, Junction 39, east exit, restricted road closed, closed to highways England – May 9-23.
A5268 St Martin’s Way and Nicholas Street heading south – Chester – closed for major road works from A5116 Upper Northgate Street (Fountains roundabout) to A483 Grosvenor Road (Grosvenor Roundabout).
Traffic can only go clockwise around the ring road as a new rain and surface water drainage tunnel is being installed in the city center – until November 16.
A548 Watergate Street – Chester – Temporary traffic lights and road works on A548 Watergate Street on A5268 St Martins Way – through January 2022.
B5135 Boathouse Lane – Parkgate, Neston – Main gas works and temporary traffic lights on B5135 Boathouse Lane near Wood Lane – through June 1st.
Flag Lane North – Upton, Chester – Temporary traffic lights and telecommunications work on Flag Lane North between Oakfield Drive and A41 Moston Road – through August 2nd.
A51 Tarvin Road – Tarvin – 30 mph speed limit due to long term road works on A51 Tarvin Road between Hockenhull (Tarvin Roundabout, Tarvin) and A55 J40 (Vicars Cross Interchange, Chester).
Additional lanes at the Stamford Bridge traffic lights, the widening of the existing bridge over the River Gowy and capacity improvements at the Tarvin roundabout – by August 3rd.

Work around the roundabout has started to improve the roundabout and build a new link road through the roundabout that will connect the M6 and the A556. There will also be night closings of the A556 – until September 26th.
B5076 Bradfield Road – Crewe – Temporary traffic lights and power works on B5076 Bradfield Road on Cliffe Road (near the Texaco gas station) – through July 30th.
Back Lane – Congleton – Back Lane closed in both directions for road works from Chelford Road to Blossom Gate Drive on May 31st.
Chelford Road – Congleton – Chelford Road closed in both directions for road works between Black Firs Lane and the A54 Holmes Chapel Road – until May 12th.
