MSC Express West Cheshire League Division 1 high-flyer Mersey Royal secured a place in the Wirral FA Senior Cup second round after Dillon Thomas left his calling card with three goals in a 6-0 blitz from Groves FC.

The efforts of Liam Brennan and Ash Wardle gave Sutton Ath a dream start against Mallaby, who equalized through Mike McLean and Paul Ellison before a late Lee Ludgate winner equalized for Sutton. Newton prevailed after beating Poulton Vics 1-0, while Liam Fitzpatrick (3) and Lewis Cooper shared goals while Capenhurst Villa was in charge of Neston Nomads 4-1.

Mike Jeffs left for Chester Nomads but was still on the losing side when Upton AA won 2-1 in the third round thanks to the efforts of Tom Killilea and Chris Dunning after a highly competitive Chester & District Challenge Cup clash .

In the first round of the Wirral Amateur Cup, West Kirby Res with Jamie Payne and Tila Davies beat Ashville Res 2-0 and Heswall Res beat Poulton Royal Res with Connor Egan 5-0 (2) Jason Bull, Dan O’Halloran and Nathan Johnson put the finishing touches.

On Saturday, Heswall avenged an earlier league loss to second division leaders Bootle St Edmunds by pulling the mat out from among the Saints in an entertaining second-round Haworth & Gallagher Bowl match at Gayton Park. Joe Ford scored twice and was added to the scorers list by Paul Lindfield when the hosts drew a 3-1 result. Darren Clifford provided comfort for the visitors.

A solitary effort by James Hughes earned Litherland Remyca Res. A. the nod over Cheshire Lines during Mossley Hill Ath. secured their spot in the last four after Sean Robinson and Matt Richardson’s goals earned a 2-0 win at Poulton Vics. The quartet of semi-finalists was completed by South Liverpool Res., Who scored 1-1 in extra time after 90 minutes. Caliph Koura won for South.

Mersey Royal’s chances to win the Division One title were blown by a hammer at the weekend despite having scored twice through Jack Ledsham and an own goal. Relegation threatened Ellesmere Port Town saved a point thanks to responses from Owen Kelsey and Mike Bebb.

Capenhurst Villa, inspired by a Tom Challinor double, celebrated only their third win of the season after beating Prescot Cables Res 3-1. Danny Page also scored for Cape, Brad Parry answered for the visitors.

Saturday was a good day for Maghull as the Division 1 team beat Rainhill Town 2-1 against Carl Peters and Liam Loughlin and Marco Parvas and Connor Rankin scored Maghull Res’s 2-1 victory in Division 2 Neston Nomads .
