Cheshire-based tech agency Decimal launched Sparkline, a tool designed to make Spotify listening data available to a much wider audience.
Sparkline enables users to follow specific artists and keep track of data, including view numbers, monthly listeners and followers, through a dashboard that provides additional listening data that is not always available to Spotify users.
Spotify’s own tools allow only artists – and those who release their music – to see how the number of times a song is played changes over time.
Decimal said the software, available for free or with a monthly paid subscription, is used by producers, session musicians, marketers, promoters, and others in the music industry to track the success of the projects they are working on.
Artists can also use Sparkline as a market researcher to understand what works for rivals and stars whose success they want to emulate.
Sparkline is the latest project from Decimal, whose technology has previously been used by Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Apple, Spotify and Google, among others.
Decimal builds on founder Chris Garrett’s experience at his previous business, Beatroot Music, which helped music industry clients manage their digital catalogs and data.
“In the early stages, we worked with a small number of clients to help them understand the success of the artists they wanted to pursue,” said Garrett.
“The next step is to expand the availability of data to gain insights into the growth of artists that customers may not even be aware of.”
