The director of Cheshire College welcomed learners and staff upon their successful return to campus where thousands of Covid tests were performed.

Over the past two weeks Cheshire College has welcomed thousands of learners to its three campuses in Chester, Ellesmere Port and Crewe. This was the culmination of another but hugely successful term for the largest education provider in the region in 16 years.

The college gradually reopened to all learners on Monday March 8th and has transitioned seamlessly from remote learning to a mixed delivery model while maintaining a high level of security.

After a number of protective measures were put in place at the beginning of the academic year, including disposable systems, social distancing, thermal imaging cameras, face covers and hand sanitizing stations, the college has now also introduced asymptomatic testing in all locations to ensure the face is protected. Personal lessons can be carried out as safely as possible.

During the 10-day period from Monday March 8 through Friday March 19, when all students attended college at least once, 10,000 lateral flow device tests were performed with the assistance of over 100 volunteers at 74 test stations in 19 centers College three campuses.

Dhesi, Director and CEO of Cheshire College, said, “I am very proud of our learners and staff, who have all done their part in making a smooth transition back to campus.

“The care, compassion, and understanding everyone has shown has enabled us to maintain a high level of security on our campus and it has been absolutely gratifying to welcome learners back to college.

“While the second semester started differently than we had imagined, it was still a great success across the board and, thanks to our strengthened virtual learning environments, we achieved some fantastic things as a college. The learners and staff have demonstrated tremendous resilience and adaptability, and it was great to celebrate another semester of fantastic academic performance. ”

Staff and learners from across the college also took the opportunity to come together virtually during the second semester – from participating in the AoC (Association of Colleges) lunar challenge sports to support their health and wellbeing, to participating in one of the most expected events in Cheshire College’s calendar, the Apprenticeship Awards, coincided with National Apprenticeship Week in February.
