Cheshire is expected to be on the Tour of Britain in 2021, it was recently announced.
Event organizers, Sweetspot, announced further details of the UCI ProSeries race this morning (March 17th).
The fifth leg of the tour will take place in Cheshire and will take place from September 5th to 12th.
The fifth stage begins in South Cheshire and ends in Warrington at the golden gates. The city is celebrating its event debut.
This year’s tour also includes a first stage destination in Edinburgh and a test route across the Northern Pennines.
The first two stages, the first between Penzance and Bodmin and the second between Sherford in Devon and Exeter via Dartmoor, were announced together with the final from Stonehaven to Aberdeen.
Phases three and four will take place entirely in Wales, but no further details have been released due to the different COVID-19 regulations in the country.
On the Cheshire leg, riders make their way up a relatively flat trail to the golden gates of Warrington.
Then it’s back to the hills for a leg linking Cumbria to Gateshead via the Lake District and the climb to Hartside Pass in the Northern Pennines, which ends in the shadow of the Angel of the North.
After the seventh stage in Edinburgh, the riders face Cairn O’Mount in the Grampian Mountains, which are included on the route from Stonehaven to Aberdeen.
All details of the route are expected to be published in early summer.
The 2020 edition of the tour has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, this year’s event should follow around 90 percent of the route that was planned but not announced last year.
