SUPERMARKET Aldi has identified Cheshire Oaks as one location in which it wants to expand its network of discount food stores.
The retail outlet has been announced alongside Gwynedd and Shropshire as part of Aldi’s plans to invest £1.3bn in UK real estate by 2023 to add an extra 100 stores to its network, with 16 of these to be opened before the end of 2022.
The company says that each new store represents a £5 million investment into the local economy and will create approximately 40 new jobs for local people.
Bryn Richards, Property Director for Aldi’s Neston Region said: “With the worsening cost-of-living crisis Aldi remains committed to the delivery of new stores across the country to help shoppers’ money go further. This is why we are setting our sights on new locations to bring investment, jobs and increased choice for local people.

“It has been a busy summer for the region. In July we opened our new store in Llay which is trading well, our construction team are hard at work building a new store in Shrewsbury (off Battlefield Roundabout) set to open in Spring 2023, and we’re progressing plans for a new store in Pwllheli which received a great pubic response during consultation.
“Building on this success we’re now considering proposals for stores at Cheshire Oaks, Warrington, Shropshire and North Wales.”
Aldi says that it will focus on local recruitment and currently provides one of the highest rates of pay in the sector. Roles include progression through Aldi’s industry leading training and access to career growth opportunities. In addition to its new and future locations, the region is keen to recruit additional staff to existing stores in North Wales.
A spokesperson for Aldi said: “Aldi’s rates of pay are significantly higher than the Government’s National Living Wage and also above the Living Wage Foundation’s recommended national rates. As of September, this year Store assistants receive a minimum hourly wage of £10.50 along with industry Leading training and career growth opportunities.
