Storm Malik brings strong winds to the region as a weather warning for Cheshire

Strong winds are expected to hit the region over the weekend.

A Met Office weather warning has been issued for parts of Cheshire as Storm Malik hits the UK.

There will also be windy conditions in the Midlands today (Saturday) and Sunday.

Headlines from Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire

Gusts in Stoke-on-Trent are expected to reach up to 52mph on Saturday afternoon, according to The Met Office.

Tomorrow will be calmer, but the wind will increase tomorrow evening and will reach about 40 miles per hour.

A yellow weather warning is already in place for eastern Scotland and north east England, with very strong winds likely to cause disruption.

A yellow warning for much of Scotland and northern England, including parts of Cheshire, comes into effect from 6pm until midnight on Sunday (30 January).

The Met Office says: “Strong winds are likely to cause some travel disruption and create some large and dangerous waves on the coasts.

“Road, rail, air and ferry services may be impacted, with possible longer travel times and cancellations. Some roads and bridges may be closed.
