Why buildings in Cheshire West will be lit up purple tonight

BUILDINGS throughout Cheshire West will be illuminated tonight (November 1) to mark Purple Tuesday.

Purple Tuesday is an international initiative set up to encourage organizations to make at least one change to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. The aim is to improve the customer experience for people who are living with a disability.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is continuing to support local, national and international campaigns during November by lighting buildings across the borough.

Remote programmable light color changes are available through lighting display technology in Chester (Town Hall, Eastgate Clock and New Gate) and on Ellesmere Port Library, and Wyvern House, Winsford.

The council’s Director of Environment and Communities, Maria Byrne said: “We are happy to be able to support a range of charities.

“Charities and representatives of national days can request buildings to be lit via the Council’s web site. November includes Purple Tuesday supporting accessibility, Color the World Orange is raising awareness of complex regional pain syndrome.

“Our buildings will be lit red to commemorate Remembrance Sunday and at the end of the month, we will split the lighting between White Ribbon Day and orange for the International Day for the elimination of violence against women.”
